What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib, also referred as a bassinet or a co-sleeper, is a small baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep next to you in a safe environment. It's a method of co-sleeping that is safe and does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you bond with your baby's new arrival.
The cots usually have a side that is able to be lowered, so you can easily reach your newborn throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a csection. Many are also portable or foldable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for newborns who aren't yet ready to move to a larger cot.

If you are looking for a longer-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some even have a detachable top section that converts into a bassinet, while others can be used on an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families that plan on traveling frequently or switching between bedrooms throughout the night. Take into consideration the dimensions of your bedroom to ensure you fit comfortably in the crib. A lot of cribs have an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.

It was a pleasure to not move like other models, so she didn't wake up in the night trying to comfort her child to feed. She also liked that the side of the chair was lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to carry the child out to feed her at night.
travel cot bedside crib CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs that we've tried, which appear quite utilitarian. The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet for the bed that allows parents to feel more connected to their child while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and shifted through three different slide positions, to be placed beside the parent's bed or in the corner so that the baby is always in reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to flow through and lets you glance at your baby. You can also keep any extra pajamas or items in the large basket underneath.
As opposed to other bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag to allow it to be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a small bedside cot, not too big or too small. The large storage basket is ideal to store extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents looking to co-sleep but don't wish to share their beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers are thrilled with the fact that they can easily access their child in the Iora and it also has an optional reflux incline to help with gas.
Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing an infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets and pillows. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for the baby and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as other smaller bedside cribs, though and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around with, consider one of the other options in our list.
